Eddy Grant - Grant Us Election Is Like A Movie

Reggae legend EDDY GRANT is amused by the glitzy arm to the U.S. presidential election - because it's just like watching a Hollywood celluloid.

The I Don't Wanna Dance singer insists the events leading up to the big ballot captures the public's resourcefulness because of its movie-like 'good hombre, bad guy' element.

And he praises British voters for refusing to allow sometime Prime Minister Tony Blair to be too showbiz in his approach to government.

Grant tells WENN, "The election? There is a lot of Hollywood exit on, which is what America is all nigh and which is what makes it great, I suppose. They are able to connect with people so well.

"This is a great opportunity for America to expose itself and show everything about itself. It has that authoritative Hollywood thing going on - good guy, bad guy - black cat, white hombre. It has all the pieces for the scroll saw - the entertainment jigsaw.

"It's really amusement. There isn't any speak about people or issues - it's literally nearly entertainment. That's America - and on that point ain't cypher going to be complaining!

"What happens here (in the U.K.) is classic because we make Mr. Blair and the whole rest of the world following George Bush and his Hollywood outlook, and the people of this rural area turned around and aforesaid, 'We don't want Hollywood, we want a Prime Minister, a President'.

"I think the rest of the world really has to commit the brakes on America and blab out to them in terms of, 'You are the chief policemen of the world and you must be seen'. But hey ? it's only if rock and roll!"

Grant is currently on his starting time world go for more than than 20 years.

Amy Winehouse's Husband 'Offered Ex-Bouncer Money To Smash Up Pete Doherty'

Blake Fielder-Civil, the husband of Amy Winehouse, reportedly offered an ex-bouncer money to organise an attack Pete Doherty.

Fielder-Civil apparently wanted Doherty “smashed to pieces” following conflicting newspaper reports about the singer's relationship with his wife.

Richard Lyttle, 39, claims he was approached by Fielder-Civil when the pair were inside Pentonville prison.

“We were sitting in my cell and he said, ‘If you get Doherty for me I’ll give you £20,00',” he told the Sun newspaper.

“He kept saying, ‘Can you arrange it?’ and telling me to get some guys to his house. He knew the address. He said, ‘Amy’s obviously sleeping with him.’

“He knew I used to be a doorman and knew some tough people. He said he wanted him smashed to pieces.”

Although the paper claims that Lyttle has since been released, Fielder-Civil is awaiting sentence after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a man and then attempting to cover the incident up.

Fielder-Civil faces a maximum of five years in prison over the assault charge.

Two join Lindsay Lohan in 'Labor'

Connie Britton, Chris Parnell in comedy

Connie Britton and Chris Parnell will star opposite Lindsay Lohan in "Labor Pains," a Nu Image/Millennium comedy in which Lohan plays a woman who fakes being pregnant.

The city of Los Angeles is expected to file a lawsuit against Time Warner Cable today (Thursday) alleging that the company made false and misleading statements to Adelphia Communications subscribers after it acquired the company in 2006, the Los Angeles Times reported today. In a 25-page lawsuit, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo claims that the New York-based cable provider violated its franchise agreement with the city by providing poor customer service and allowing excessive delays in repair work. "Hundreds of thousands of Los Angeles residents were ripped off," the Times quoted Delgadillo as saying in a statement. "Time Warner must be held accountable for its promises." According to the newspaper, the cable provider, which is in the process of being spun off by parent Time Warner Inc., could face civil penalties amounting to tens of millions of dollars.

Tinariwen is a Tuareg group that performs in a Middle Eastern/African elan exchangeable to artists like Ali Farka Toure or Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. All of the musicians originating from the southern Sahara, the group's key out, meaning "empty places," is a mirror image of their lands of origin. The band formed in the rebel camps of Colonel Ghadaffi, as each of the musicians had been constrained from their nomadic lifestyle into involuntary military inspection and repair. Surrounded by a displaced nation of their peers, Tinariwen forged a new style of music, trading their traditional lutes and shepherd's flutes for electric guitars and drums. The style that resulted was dubbed Tishoumaren, "the medicine of the unemployed people." Their medicine addressed issues such as political awakening, problems of deportee, repression of their people, and demands of sovereignty. In a realm with no postal or telephony system, their tapes presently became a grassroots voice of insurrection and a rallying point for a voiceless nation. Though unlawful in Algeria and Mali, 2001's The Radio Tisdas Sessions and 2004's Amassakoul are uncommitted to Western audiences.

Adele - 19

Flushing aside the myriad of female singer-songwriters on the market at the moment, Adele could be something special. As it stands she enters the marketplace searching for the element of uniqueness among the saturation and therefore seems to have more to prove. Her debut album '19' goes a long way towards stamping her musical talent on the public awareness.
From the outset we can feel a gutsy, angst-ridden vibe from the young singer, infusing her music with a brash, funky kind of girl power (for want of a better phrase), built around the strength of the female voice - gravelly and coarse, therefore setting her in a different bracket to the aforementioned plethora of female talent currently championing the charts.
While her debut chart-topping single 'Chasing Pavements' is a great catchy pop song, it is on the more simplistic and bare tracks that Adele's vocal range is really evident. The teenage singer works a range of music styles here from the blues-inflections of 'Crazy for You' to the stripped-back 'First Love', creating a sound that is mature and soulful.
What is refreshing is that Adele isn't afraid to present her raw voice, exposed - without instrumentals clouding the sound. The result is plenty of stripped-back material, that is reliant on the natural strength of her voice to carry the stories she tells in her songs.
If you're now thinking that '19' sounds like a whine-fest then have a listen to the brighter and bolder tracks like 'Right As Rain' and 'Cold Shoulder' before making a judgement. Filled with big beats, they offer a fresh vibe before the album has a chance to become tired.
She has Mark Ronson's stamp of approval, she has a sound that is far older than her 19 years and she isn't afraid to speak her mind - Adele has the potential to go far and she certainly seems to have her head screwed on in terms of the fame game. We can probably expect much more creative material from her as 19 becomes 20-something.

Verizon Wireless Expands Wireless Broadband Network Into Rock County, Wis.

JANESVILLE, Wis., June 3 -- Verizon Wireless today
announced it has activated three new cell sites in Rock County that bring
the nation's most reliable network to area residents. This new coverage
area is in the southeastern portions of Rock County and includes the
communities of Johnstown Center, Lima Center, Avalon, Emerald Grove,
Harmony and Bradford.

In March, Verizon Wireless announced plans to expand coverage to
approximately 59,000 residents in Rock, Walworth and Jefferson counties by
mid-June. "With such a large demand for reliable wireless coverage in this
area we pushed to complete the expansion ahead of schedule," said T.J. Fox,
president-Wisconsin/Illinois Region, Verizon Wireless. "We are continually
investing in and perfecting our network so our customers can take advantage
of all our services, no matter where they live or travel."

Expanding its network into Rock County is part of Verizon Wireless'
effort to enlarge its coverage area, improve indoor reception, increase
capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in
Wisconsin and throughout the country. Since the company was formed in 2000,
Verizon Wireless has invested more than $222 million in Wisconsin on
improvements to its network to increase coverage and capacity, and to add
new services. More than $37 million of this investment was spent in
Wisconsin in 2007.

High-Speed Features: BroadbandAccess, V CAST

With this expansion, Verizon Wireless customers in Rock County can now
access the company's high-speed wireless network and enjoy two prime
services: BroadbandAccess and V CAST multimedia services.

Based on Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) network
technology, BroadbandAccess provides mobile users access to their
information as if they were attached to this data via a high-speed wired
connection but with the freedom of true mobility. Developed with a range of
users in mind, the service enables large enterprises, small to medium-sized
businesses and mobile professionals to conduct business anytime, anywhere
in the BroadbandAccess coverage area through a secure, high-speed data
connection.

With BroadbandAccess, users can expect average download speeds of 600
kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload
speeds of 500-800 kbps. Customers can download a 1 Megabyte email
attachment -- the equivalent of a small PowerPoint(R) presentation or a
large PDF file -- in about eight seconds, and upload the same-sized file in
less than 13 seconds. Customers who travel outside the BroadbandAccess
coverage area with an EV-DO device will switch seamlessly to Verizon
Wireless' existing NationalAccess network.

The company's high-speed network also enables its V CAST multimedia
services, which offers customers the ability to download full song tracks,
play cutting-edge 3D games and stream video clips straight to their handset
with top transmission speeds. With content updated daily, customers can
watch dozens of on-demand videos, including breaking news, weather, sports
highlights and the hottest entertainment clips.

Customers with V CAST Music can download song tracks directly to their
Verizon Wireless handsets or to PCs equipped with Windows(R) XP or Vista
operating systems. The V CAST Music on-demand service includes access to a
catalog of more than 3 million songs.
